What
is a horsemen's best test?
What is the best test to insure a genetically and structurally
sound and superior performance horse? There is only one test (as told by horsemen and
documented for all time) in The Kingdom of The Horse:
"There are many
methods to distinguish the better from the lesser horses, but there is only one
way to find out the very best of them: Racing, the hardest of the tests.
“Races are a test
of everything: Organic soundness, muscular strength, endurance, nerves. Racing
means ultimate proof of physical stamina and extreme psychic strain. Ruthless
and consistent selection leaves only the best, the toughest, the finest to be
passed on by heredity. To this day there is no better way to test the qualities
of a horse than racing.”

Michigan Thoroughbreds...
Emerald Forest Thoroughbreds is
situated in North Oakland County in Holly Township, Michigan. The farm was
established in 1931 by Dr. Edwin Breishacher of Detroit, where he maintained an
active thoroughbred and saddlebred breeding program until the onset of World War
II. The farm is bordered on the south by the now-vacated Robert Jackson
Thoroughbred Stable, well-known in the 1960's and 1970's for their spectacular
array of thoroughbreds.
Although the barn at Emerald Forest
Thoroughbreds remained devoid of horses for thirty-five years, the
stalls are filled today with thoroughbred broodmares and racing prospects.
Chrissy and George Kutlenios have transferred their twenty-year love of
home-raised horses into the thrill of thoroughbred owning, breeding and racing.
Emerald Forest Thoroughbreds is
excited about the upcoming opportunities at the new Pinnacle Race Track
in Romulus, Michigan that opened in July, 2008. We are also licensed to
race in Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Pennsylvania, New York and Ontario, Canada.

Racing
Philosophy...
Many professional horseman scoff at the idea of maintaining a successful
"backyard" racehorse operation while the majority of small, private
thoroughbred horsemen have been discouraged with the practices of the large,
factory-farmed thoroughbred facilities. Emerald Forest Thoroughbreds
seeks to find the proper balance between home-handled horses and the services of
professional, ethical racing professionals on all levels.
Every facet of the lives of the horses owned by Emerald Forest
Thoroughbreds is monitored by the very best and most ethical veterinarians,
farriers and track trainers that we can possibly find. Of course, none of the
horses are ever subjected to performance-enhancing pharmaceuticals, steroids or
chemicals.
